I had heard of Dylan’s Candy Bar but had never been to one.  I thought it was just like any other candy store, only slightly more famous because Dylan happens to be Ralph Lauren’s daughter.   One sunny Saturday I was walking around Lincoln Road after breakfast when I came across its newest location, which took over the old Ghirardelli corner.  We decided to check it out and were instantly greeted at the door with these little cups that looked like mini ice cream sundaes, only the red stick in the middle wasn’t a spoon, it was a mini straw.  Not being able to resist anything that has caramel on it, I took one and wow, I was so caught off guard, this was like nothing I had ever tasted before!

I finished my mini sample as I was walking around the store, making my way eventually to the ice cream corner.  I hear that their ice creams are delicious, they even have a birthday cake flavor with pieces of cake inside, but I didn’t try any of them that day.  I was about to walk away when I saw the tray being laid out – they were about to make more of the mysterious concoction!

As it turns out, what I was drinking and enjoying so much was frozen hot cocoa.  Maybe it’s because I’m not a huge ice cream lover and am not up to date with new flavors and developments, but I had never heard of frozen hot cocoa being served like a milkshake.  It was delicious.

Behold, Dylan’s Chillins Cookie Monstah!  Swirls of chocolate and caramel, followed by frozen hot cocoa, then topped with whipped cream, crumbled cookies, malt balls and more chocolate and caramel.  (A very special thank you to Lizzy, the Dylan’s employee who was patient and kind enough to let me take pictures and ask questions!)

IMG_3359I had two samples, which for me was enough.  They actually come in regular cups, which I think may be a bit much for one person, but great to share.

The store itself is very cute and lively.  I want to go back to try some of the candies and ice cream (they have a pretzel cone!).
